With explosive land prices and high estate taxes, farm families are raising their priority of farm succession planning. The resumption of estate taxes gives farming families little choice between selling farmland to satisfy the tax liability or creating an agricultural legacy to shift farming assets to succeeding generations.
To launch that process, farm families are being invited to the Agri-Legacy Conference, presented by Beck’s Hybrids, scheduled for February 23 at the Decatur (IL) Conference Center and Hotel. “Farm succession planning can be a challenge, but it can be done successfully. We did it,” say Chet and Lori Esther, Beardstown, IL, featured by Farm Journal magazine in the nationally-promoted Legacy Project.
The Esthers will be the keynote speakers for the conference, which also includes other professionals who specialize in counseling families on farm succession planning. Attendees will learn how to address a variety of legal and financial challenges, as well as bringing the family together for goal setting and thorough communication among the members.
Among the speakers scheduled for the event are attorney Mike Barton of Bellatti and Barton, LLC, Springfield, IL; Brigitte Franzen, CFP, Waterstreet Solutions, Peoria, IL; and Jim Endress , retired University of Illinois Extension Educator, Freeport, IL.
The Agri-Legacy Conference will help attendees take the next step in the process of developing their own succession plan.
The conference begins with registration at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude at 3:00 p.m. Registration is $35 per person or $40 per couple. Early registration, prior to February 20, is $25 per person and $35 per couple. Registration includes lunch, refreshments, and conference materials.
