Centralia ag lab to be closed under new budget

Gov. Pat Quinn gave his annual budget address before the General Assembly Wednesday. He outlined areas where state services will be cut, consolidated, or eliminated in the coming year.

The animal agriculture lab in Centralia will be closed and consolidated with another lab in Galesburg, as part of Gov. Pat Quinn's FY 2013 budget that begins July 1. 

The Centralia lab closure is among 59 facilities across the state that will see cutbacks in the proposed budget.  It's estimated that the lab's closure will save the state about $1.1 million.

In his address to lawmakers in Springfield, the governor called his budget address a "rendezvous with reality."  He called for changes to pensions, Medicaid,  and to move most vulnerable citizens from institutions to community-based care.
