The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for most of southern Illinois, south of Interstate 70 for Thursday evening through Friday afternoon.
Snow should begin across the area by late Thursday afternoon. Forecasters say a short period of sleet or freezing rain will be possible before the snow arrives.
Accumulations of 5 to 8 inches of snow are possible by Friday evening from Interstate 70 southward, with north-northwest winds blowing 10-15 miles an hour.
In far southern Illinois, significant accumulations of sleet, snow and ice will result in treacherous driving conditions Thursday night and Friday.
