The third time was a charm for 16-year old Lexy Schaefer of Brighton in Macoupin County. For the past two years, Lexy has exhibited the reserve champion rabbit pen at the Illinois State Fair. Today, she was awarded Grand Champion for her trio of California rabbits.
She will sell the rabbit pen next Tuesday at the Governor's Sale of Champions.
18-year old Ashley Scheibe of Prairie du Rocher in Monroe County exhibited the reserve champion pen of rabbits -- a trio of New Zealands.
Illinois Farm Bureau will present both girls with framed photos of their winners during a ceremony at the Sale of Champions next week.
We have photos of the winners in our gallery.
