Southern Illinois drought intensifies

The National Weather Service has put southern IL into extreme drought conditions.

Forecast rains failed to appear Thursday over much of Illinois.  The latest update of the Drought Monitor puts southern Illinois into the "extreme" category, just one shy from the worst drought category.

Central Illinois was put into the "severe" category, as recent rainfall has failed to make a dent in this year's rainfall deficit.
