The much anticipated Pro Farmer Midwest Crop Tour, presented by DuPont Pioneer, kicked off this morning and many are saying this year’s trek may be the most interesting one ever - considering the challenging growing season the Midwest has faced in 2012. The eastern leg of the tour started this morning in Columbus, Ohio and will make its way through Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and end in Minnesota on Thursday.

Brian Grete will lead the group traveling westward, and he says the word he expects will come up this week more than any other is variability.

Chip Flory is leading the group traveling eastward from Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  He says the recent USDA crop report should cut into demand.

Over the next four days - more than 100 scouts will survey corn and soybean fields every 15 to 20 miles across seven states - representing 70-percent of the corn and soybean production in the U.S.  On Friday, Pro Farmer will release its crop estimates at 2 p.m. CDT.
