Post-drought nutrient, drainage issues Chicago Farmers' topics
Deadline for reservations to the October meeting are due by October 12.
Kay Shipman
Published: Oct 5, 2012
Dan Schaefer, nutrient stewardship director with the Illinois Council on Best Management Practices, will discusses the challenges of managing nutrients and drainage after a drought Monday, Oct. 15, at the Chicago Farmers’ monthly meeting. Reservations are due by Friday, Oct. 12.
The event will start at 11:30 a.m. in the Illini Center, 200 S. Wacker Drive, Chicago. The meal and program will start at noon and end about 2 p.m.
After the extremely dry conditions of 2012, applied this year nitrogen may remain in the soil in the nitrate form. Establishment of a cover crop, soil nitrate testing, and field tile control structures are some practices being used to keep those nitrates in the fields.
The fee is $25 in advance or $35 at the door for members and $50 for non-members.
