At least 6 people were killed in downstate Harrisburg, Ill., when a tornado hit the city of 9,000 this morning and left the medical center scrambling to treat dozens of injured, according to The Associated Press.

Another 100 people were injured from the tornado, which hit at 4:56 a.m., authorities said. Between 250 and 300 houses were damaged or destroyed and about 25 businesses were badly hit.

The southeast portion of the city experienced the worst damage, including a strip mall near U.S. 45 that was flattened.
