Illinois shows slight improvement in drought conditions
Recent rains have helped moderate the most severe drought conditions across northern Illinois.
John Hawkins
Published: Oct 25, 2012
The area of most severe drought in northwestern Illinois was halved from last week's report, according to the latest Drought Monitor report. About 9% of the state, mainly in southern Illinois, has seen drought conditions eliminated this week.
Nationally, the latest map showed little change from the preceding week, although the total area of the country in moderate or worse drought crept up to yet another record high in the 12-year U.S. Drought Monitor data.
