Illinois corn planting enters home stretch

The Illinois Ag Statistics Service says 79% of the state's corn crop is planted this week. We have a report from Jim Taylor in Aledo.

Here are the highlights from this afternoon's crop progress report:

Corn planted:  79% complete vs. 29% average.
Corn emerged: 34% vs. 6% average.

Soybeans planted:  13% complete vs. 2% average.

Sorghum planted:  19% complete vs. 2% average.

Winter wheat headed: 80% vs. 6% average.  Condition of the Illinois wheat crop is 80% good-excellent, 16% fair, and 4% poor to very poor.
