Illinois corn harvest 36% complete
Illinois' corn harvest is now past the one-third mark, and some farmers are switching to soybeans.

Published: Sep 17, 2012
The Illinois Ag Statistics Service reports that, as of Sunday, 36% of the state's corn crop is harvested. That compares with the long-term average of 13% for this date.
Illinois' sorghum harvest is 12 percent complete vs. the 9% average.
Three percent of soybeans are harvested, just slightly ahead of the 2% average.
Here are some of the responses to IFB's yield survey from members this week:
Allen from Logan County said he expects only "half of a corn crop" this year.
Mike from Saline County said "This is the worst crop I've ever seen."
Norbert from Shelby County reported that he's only harvested 1,400 bushels from 210 acres of corn.
Kevin from Jefferson County said his corn is ranging from 15-45 bushels per acre.
Meanwhile, University of Illinois dairy specialist Mike Hutjens has developed an aflatoxin video for livestock farmers on how to handle aflatoxin-infested corn.
