Fire danger high across much of Illinois
Temperatures above 100 degrees and strong winds will increase the fire danger across much of Illinois this week.

Published: Jun 26, 2012
The National Weather Service says strong high pressure will dominate the Midwest into early next week, allowing for very dry conditions and extreme fire danger.
Dry conditions, low humidity and moderate winds will elevate fire danger for the rest of the week. The NWS says Wednesday through Friday poses the biggest threat for uncontrolled fire as winds will be the strongest.
Obey local burn bans that may be in effect in your areas.
High temperatures between 102 and 106 are forecast for Thursday. In fact, the NWS is forecasting all-time record highs for the month of June around Springfield and St. Louis for Thursday. If realized, those high temperatures would exceed records set back in the major drought years of 1934 and 1954.
