"State paying penalty for lack of reforms" I forgot to sign my name to previous comments about retiree pensions. Diane Dale luvjunebug8@yahoo.com

State paying penalty fo lack of reforms article. Granted we are not big farmers, but we are members of Ifb. II read Farm week from cover to cover every week. We are very interested in everything that happens in agriculture. I have Been very dismayed by the unspoken under currents that seem to premeate the state's problems all lie due to state pensions. Please check facts and you will find state employees like my husband and many more agreed years ago to pay into state pensions along with the state. Check facts and you might find the state did not keep their agreement. They did not pay into pensions for several years and even allocated borrowing against those funds. So when sacrificing men and women ready to retire, or already retired think twice how you would feel if during retirement you have the rug pulled out from under you. These are hard working employees who often took jobs no one else wanted working in prisons, mental health, and public sectors. Employees twenty five years and more agreeing to promises of a modest retirement and help with Medical insurance. We are told we all have to make sacrifices. Well telling state employees you can keep your insurance, but take less if none for your COLA. A lot of state employees have made sacrifices to their health, and sometimes their lives. I have personally seen the wear and tear on my husband through twenty six years at his job. We all paid for his stress and illnesses created from that stress he still pays for yet today. He is not alone. The stress is great in many of these jobs. Yet the public sector thinks pensioners got wealthy on their backs. When in fact a lot of the public would not take these jobs. So, IFB please check facts before the blame is laid at the feet of retirees and future retirees. Numerous farm programs are funded by tax payers. Most people never quibble over funding to agriculture. The simple fact that we are clothed and fed is thanks to the farmer. I ask for thanks in return to pensioners that have served long and hard the same curtsey? We are in this together.
