Farm Bill hits a roadblock in the Senate

RFD Radio's Matt Kaye says the Farm Bill open amendment process was 'shut down' late Tuesday, when Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul objected to a package of amendments.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid immediately took action to limit amendments for now to two amendments (sugar and SNAP) and a technical amendment.

RFD Radio's Matt Kaye says this will greatly slow down farm bill consideration, unless there's a breakthrough deal with Sen. Paul to allow his amendment to cut off foreign aid to Pakistan.

Senate Ag chair Debbie Stabenow held a news conference this morning, but Kaye reports this is a big 'setback' for the farm bill, unless resolved soon.

Earlier Tuesday, Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin and Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn defended their pending amendment to cap crop insurance payments to large farming operations.  We have more in an audio report from Matt.
