Drought conditions improving slightly

Long-term outlook still remains shaky for 2013 season.

While drought impacts in the short term have eased significantly in the past few weeks, the cumulative effects from the last several months are still impacting the region.

According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor, severe drought conditions continued in portions of northern and central Illinois, generally west of a line from near Woodstock to Lincoln westward to the Mississippi River.  The extreme northwest corner of Illinois remains in extreme drought.

The remainder of central and southern Illinois is classified as being in a moderate drought.

The longer-range Seasonal Drought Outlook from the National Weather Service indicates the drought will continue across Illinois, but will lessen in severity through the end of this year.
