The Grain and Feed Association of Illinois is partnering with Grain Journal to present a free webinar on mycotoxins with special emphasis on aflatoxin.

Growing conditions this year seem right for some parts of the state's corn crop to experience higher than normal levels of mycotoxins and we want to be sure everyone is up to speed on sampling and testing procedures.

The Webinar presentation entitled "Mycotoxins: Overview and Sampling to Analysis" will include a discussion of the five major mycotoxins:
  • Aflatoxins,
  • Fumonisins,
  • Deoxynivalenol,
  • Zearalenone; and
  • Ochratoxin
Overall testing for mycotoxins will be addressed including reasons for errors in sampling, sample preparation, analysis and methods to reduce these errors. The various types of test kits available will be addressed explaining their appropriate usage for different types of grain handling facilities or manufacturing plants.

The webinar will be presented by Dr. John Richard who is the former President and CEO of Romer Labs and is now serving as a consultant. During his career Dr. Richard has done extensive writing and research related to mycotoxins and their effects on animals.
