FarmWeek often is asked to provide prices for natural gas, dried distillers grain (DDGs), corn gluten, gasoline, ethanol, and diesel fuel. Finding a reliable source that compiles prices on a weekly basis is difficult, but we have come up with various free websites that provide vast amounts of information on various commodities.
They include:
The New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) provides the latest futures prices for crude oil, pre-tax reformulated gasoline and heating oil (a proxy contract for diesel fuel) and natural gas futures.
The U.S. Department of Energy site, www.eia.doe.gov, provides a good comparison of gasoline and diesel prices on a weekly, monthly, or annual basis. Access the site, then click on “petroleum” and then “prices.” The site also includes a good rundown of crude oil prices worldwide and some fairly comprehensive articles on what’s going on in the energy world.
DTN's Ethanol website has the latest information on rack prices for ethanol and gasoline. DTN Ethanol website
Livestock producers interested in knowing prices for DDGs should find useful information at www.ams.usda.gov/mnreports/gx_gr121.txt.
The site, www.ams.usda.gov/mnreports/ms_gr852.txt, provides prices on DDGs, corn gluten, and various other commodities.
University of Missouri Extension Feed Ingredients provides prices on DDGs, corn gluten, and various other commodities.
http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/eastpeoriacenter/downloads/19808.xls provides the latest DDG prices from U of I Extension.
